There is a lot to be said for a positive mental image. It is very powerful when it is manifested in your mind… Especially the ever-powerful subconscious mind. If I may quote an insightful paraphrasing by Earl Nightingale, “As you think, so shall you become.” In other words, we become what we think about. Fortunately, we have the ability to choose our thoughts. So we might as well choose positive ones that can work on our behalf.
A home gym has been a part of my vision for as long as I can remember. Even as a very young person, whenever I envisioned myself as a grownup, my house always included an awesome home gym. Exercise was almost as normal to me as were eating, drinking, and breathing. Whenever I imagined myself as an adult, I was always in shape. No other option was satisfactory to me.
I am happy and grateful that this has become a self-fulfilling prophecy. I have made it a priority to have a home gym in every place that I have ever lived since childhood. They were not spectacular in the early days, just basic and functional….nothing pretty. Each of them was to be a stepping stone upon which the next would be improved. Fortunately, each home gym has become progressively better and nicer, with a more versatile choice of equipment.
The powerful mental imagery in my subconscious mind has made this into a seemingly automatic process. The great deal of effort that I put into creating each home gym did not seem like work. I maintained the perception that it was all worthwhile.
It is true that we become what we think about regardless of whether our thoughts are positive or negative, so it is prudent to get rid of negative thoughts that may creep in, and to immediately replace them with positive ones. Remember the adage “Be careful what you wish for….you just might get it.”
